SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has sent show-cause notices to the Centre and the state government in the alleged irregularities in the construction of NH-44E within four weeks.
The show-cause follows a PIL filed by Arnold G. Momin, a High Court lawyer.
In his petition, Momin had said the PWD had demanded Rs 2,390.89 crore for the project but the Centre sanctioned Rs 2,319.44 crore.
Momin sought information under the RTI Act from PWD (NH), offices of Deputy Commissioners in West and East Garo Hills, and West and East Khasi Hills about the amount earmarked for the road construction and also regarding the payment of compensation to landowners.
Momin came to know that out of the total Rs 2,319.44 crore, Rs 2,028.39 crore has been spent but there is no explanation about the remaining amount.
