SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) petitioned the state Chief Election Officer to register their protest against the enrolment of new voters from the Harijan Colony as part of the special summary revision.
Thomas Passah, the president of the youth wing of the regional political party, said the party was informed that the Election Department has instructed booth level officers to visit the colony.
Pointing to the present situation in the state, the KHNAM said the letter was also addressed to Rangbah Shnong (headman) of the Harijan Colony, which they said was highly questionable.
“Rangbah Shnong should be from among the indigenous citizens of the state and he should be in possession of sanat (appointment letter) from the Hima of Syiem Mylliem,” KHNAM said.
The youth wing met the Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of High Level Committee, Prestone Tynsong, and apprised him on the matter on Monday.
