SHILLONG: Social organization Thma U Rangli-juki (TUR) has expressed its dismay and anguish at the absence of six MDCs, who are members of the VAB Committee of the KHADC headed by Kong Teilinia Thangkhiew, from the meeting held on July 6.
The VAB Committee was recently constituted by the KHADC to review and look into the matters concerning the Village Administration Bill of the KHADC. The committee is to look and study the suggestions and recommendations
“It is interesting that the KHADC via the VAB Committee had invited suggestions from the people, civil society groups etc… Unfortunately the lackadaisical attitude shown by the six MDCs was a betrayal of the people and we should not allow anyone to take us for granted. In fact the VAB debates should be considered a priority by each MDC and the debates should be earnestly taken forward and a timeline set for this Bill to become an Act,” TUR said in a statement on Tuesday.
TUR reiterated its stand that the VAB should be inclusive, democratic and empowering the people and the Dorbar Shnong.
It must also be able to stand before the laws of the land and the Constitution.
