Man lynched near Assam’s wedding venue, six arrested

GUWAHATI: One person was beaten to death following his altercation with a group of youth from a marriage party at Ghurathal in Nalbari district of Assam on Tuesday night leading cancellation of the marriage for the time being.

A The  marriage ceremony turned into a nightmare when  a 35-year-old man , Jatin Das was lynched by a group of drunken persons for asking them not to burst crackers outside the marriage venue.

The incident took place outside a marriage venue at Ghurathal village in Mukalmua area of the district. Police informed the man, a daily-wage worker, died after a group of about 10 persons   mercilessly beat him up following an altercation over bursting crackers.

Six persons identified as Jiten Talukdar, Dipankar Talukdar, Barun Talukdar, Achyut Talukdar, Harekrishna Talukdar and Bidyut Barman were arrested by police so far in connection with the incident.

Locals said some youths from the bride’s family started bursting firecrackers outside the marriage venue around 11 pm last night, minutes before the arrival of the groom. Das, who was taking a stroll after his dinner, entered into a heated argument with the youths after they had allegedly threw

Police and CRPF personnel were deployed at the area following the incident. The deceased is survived by his wife and two children.

Meanwhile, the marriage could not be held following the barbaric incident with the groom and his family refusing to come to the bride’s house.
