14-year-old kills self
NONGSTOIN: A 14-year-old boy hanged himself from a tree near his house at Lawse village here on Tuesday. Bhabanjied Kharsohphoh was found dead by his parents who informed Nongstoin police. The police said the case was of suicide and the body was exempted from postmortem and handed over to the family. A case has been registered.

Elderly man goes missing
SHILLONG: An elderly man went missing from June 18. An FIR was filed by Subasish Paul, resident of Lower Mawprem at Lumdiengjri Police Station after his father has gone missing from his residence.The complainant’s father left home on June 18 at around 11:30 am informing the complainant’s mother that he will go for a walk and will return back taking with his Rs 3000 and till date he has not returned home. The missing person is 64 years and is dark complexion, 5.11 ft height, pointed nose and semi bald hair. He wore white check shirt, dark grey long pant, off-white cap and blue colour slipper.

Cantonment Committee felicitates Shullai
SHILLONG: The Cantonment Area Development Committee, Shillong, had organised a get together of all its members in the meeting held at Dodgeon Lane Community Hall on Sunday, where MLA Sanbor Shullai, was felicitated for having won the just recently concluded MLA election for the 3rd consecutive time. On this occasion, the members of the committee cherished the efforts put in by the local MLA for past several years in uplifting the plight of the people of Cantonment area in general and the 19-South Shillong Constituency in particular. The MLA renewed his promised to serve the people of his area and the state as a whole as he has always been doing in the past.

Week-long awareness camp
SHILLONG: The NSS unit of St. Edmund’s College started a week-long special camp at Dewlieh and Diengsong villages under Khatar Shnong-Laitkroh CD Block from July 9 to 14. The camp is attended by about 100 students accompanied by the programme officers. The flag off ceremony was done by the principal, Dr Sylvanus Lamare, in the presence of Prof Gideon Kharkongor, IQAC Coordinator on the college campus. The programmes for the week includes mobilisation, awareness programmes on issues of adolescence, marriage, disaster management, rural self employment, jumble sale, cultural extravaganza, construction of drains and steps besides others. The camp is coordinated by the NSS Cell of the NEHU. The aim of the camp is to inculcate the sense of responsibility, leadership and community service among the students.  
National Lok Adalat to be held in WGH
TURA: The District and Session Judge cum Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, West Garo Hills, Tura has informed that District Legal Services Authority, Tura will organise National Lok Adalat on all subject matters in the District & Session Court Premises at 10 am on Saturday.  All concerned who have received summons and notices from the court to attend the National Lok Adalat are urged to attend for settlement or disposal of their cases.
SGH DC sets deadline for submission of particulars
BAGHMARA: Deputy Commissioner (Supply), South Garo Hills, has issued a notification directing the beneficiaries of the district under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 as well as those under non-NFSA to submit their correct particulars for disposal of claims and objections in order to streamline the over-all process of identification. The notification stated that the particulars of the beneficiaries will be accepted by the office of the DC till August 15.  
KSU Mawthadraishan circle elects office bearers
NONGSTOIN: The KSU’s Mawthadraishan Circle on Wednesday elected a newly office bearers for 2018 to 2021. The election was held at Dorbar Hall, Markasa, West Khasi Hills. The meeting was attended by Assistant Organising Secretary of the KSU, Central Body, Barikular Nongsiej, who also presided over the election in presence of Secretary Farmers’ Cell KSU central body, Richard Mawkhiew, John Fisher Nongsiang President KSU WKH, Rishot Kharbani, General Secretary, John Milton Organising Secretary and others. Jibar Paul Thabah was elevated to the post of the president, where other members include Risman Wahlang as general secretary, vice president, Kyntiew Syiem Shangoi and others.
