SHILLONG: After individuals and residential buildings, petrol bomb hurlers targeted a government office early on Tuesday morning.
Miscreants lobbed a petrol bomb at the office of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) located in Lachumiere around 8am, an FIR filed by the MPSC secretary said.
The chowkidar in the building saw smoke emitting from the window of a room facing the entrance and as he went towards the first floor to check, he came across two unknown persons running down the stairs.
As he tried to confront and apprehend them, they pushed him down the stairs and the two unknown persons managed to flee to the centenary point and U Tirot Sing stadium,” the FIR stated.
The bomb damaged government property worth Rs 10 lakh. The FIR said it was done to intimidate the officers and staff of the MPSC office from carrying out their official duties.
SP (City) Steve Rynjah said police are looking into the situation and inquiry is on.
He said that some people have seen the miscreants and police have put up a strong team to deal with the case. The main target for the miscreants was the room of the secretary and nobody was injured in the incident, he added.
On the other hand, MPSC secretary WAM Booth, who is also the Joint Secretary of the Sericulture and Weaving, said since she does not deal with the works involving recruitment, no important documents were in the room.
Replying to a query, Booth said the only important document that was of any value was the duplicate enquiry report conducted for the Sericulture and Weaving Department and the original report has already been submitted.
She also said MPSC has lately been trying to streamline many things to bring transparency.
