SHILLONG: Meghalaya police are keeping a close watch to check the growth of Islamic radical forces operating in the North East.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, DGP SB Singh, who is set to retire on July 31, said, “We are seized of the matter and hence continue to keep vigil.”
He, however, refused to divulge details regarding the matter.
The issue figured in the recent NEC meeting with Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal stressing the need for inter-state and international cooperation to overcome the security challenge following the spread of Islamic radical forces.
Later, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla had also said the northeastern states can share information and inputs on any forms of terrorism which affect the region so that necessary steps can be taken to deal with the situation.
