GUWAHATI: Assam director-general of police, Kuladhar Saikia has underlined the need for robust public relations in all government public sector undertakings for seamless connect with the public.

Speaking at the 3rd North East Public Relations Conclave organised here on Saturday, Saikia also said that in order to make the Assam Police a friendly face, reception centres were being set up in five police stations in the city to begin with.

“While digital technology has ensured 24×7 connect across the globe, it has also resulted in diminished person to person connect – a reason for the rising turmoil in the present world,” he said.

The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Guwahati chapter organised the daylong ‘North East Public Relations Conclave 2018’ on the theme ‘PR – The way ahead’ here.

In his keynote address, P J Baruah, the executive editor of The Assam Tribune in his key note address said that good public relations is the key to finding amicable solution to many problems that plague society.

“A prudent CEO should leverage on the competence of PR persons in their organisations to gauge perceptions and react to situations,” Baruah said.

He also stressed the need for PR professionals to establish affirmative relationships with the media and other important stakeholders.

PRSI Guwahati chapter chairperson, Madhuchanda A Choudhury(NRL) gave a gist of the activities undertaken to promote the profession of PR in the region.

The inaugural session was followed by three technical sessions on contemporary issues related to PR followed by the valedictory session.
