SHILLONG: A high level meeting between UDP and PDF will be held on Wednesday to decide on the common candidate for Ranikor by-poll.
The meeting to be held at the residence of party president Donkupar Roy is crucial as a final decision will be taken regarding the matter, UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh said on Tuesday.
The UDP had earlier made it clear that the party would contest the by-poll.
The party will field Pius Marwein, who came second in Ranikor in the past two elections.
Earlier, the UDP president had urged the PDF leader PN Syiem to support the UDP candidate.
Support to Conrad
Regarding South Tura by-poll, Lyngdoh said the party was committed to support Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
According to Lyngdoh, UDP had proposed the name of Conrad to lead the government and hence the party is committed to support him so that he can continue to lead the government.
Though the UDP unit in South Tura wanted to contest the by-poll, the party’s central leadership will sort out the matter.
