TURA: Residents of Bhangarpur Village under Demdema Block in West Garo Hills have accused their VEC president and secretary of functioning illegally for their own interests.

A complaint in this regard was submitted to the Programme Officer cum Block Development Officer of Demdema Block where they alleged that separate job cards were issued to certain members of their own family although they have been living together in the same house. The residents also claimed that the two VEC leaders made job cards for residents of Assam with the intent to misappropriate and grab the fund.

The villagers further alleged that job cards were also made for persons below 18 years and those above 60 years who are not entitled for the same on account of their ages. Another allegation made by the residents was that single job cards were made for some families without mentioning the names of other family members.

An inquiry into the matter has been sought from the BDO by the villagers as well as action against the erring VEC leaders as per the provisions of law.
