SHILLONG: Opposition Congress MLA David Nongrum has hailed the NPP-led MDA government for its performance in the last four months.
“The present government under the leadership of Conrad Sangma is doing very well and we are not saying that they have not performed,” Nongrum said on Thursday.
Stating that people have aspirations and expectations from the government, especially in recent issue like the Harijan Colony and teachers’ grievances, he said it would be a boost to the government if it resolves the issues.
“The Congress is always there to support any local issue as it is our moral duty to do good to people of the state,” he said while assuring support for any government that can solve the long pending issues.
However, the legislator told media persons on Thursday that the Congress would give a tough fight to Conrad and “if block Congress continues to work hard, party would be able to sail through the election.
Asserting that the South Tura by-poll will be interesting as the election will have Chief Ministerial candidate, he also made it clear that the party will field a candidate in South Tura though the candidate has not been decided as of now.
“We do have strong block in South Tura but it will not be an easy fight since the chief minister is contesting from there but based on the hard work of the party workers, we should be able to sail through there,” Nongrum said.
He also said the people of the state are smart to understand which party is better to lead the state in view of the current trend of regional parties associating themselves with BJP.
As far as Ranikor by-poll is concerned, Nongrum said though Danggo has left the party, the Congress block in the constituency is still strong and active even as he reiterated that the Congress will field a strong candidate in Ranikor.
He claimed that the Congress stands fair chance of winning the by-poll in Ranikor as the question of winning the election depends on the work of the candidate for the constituency.
