Cops nab 4 rhino poachers in Assam

GUWAHATI: Police launched an operation and arrested four suspected rhino poachers, including two from Nagaland, from Kachomari-Sonari village under Darrang police station in central Assam on Saturday evening.

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, it was informed that the suspected poachers, who had planned to kill rhinos at the Orang National Park, were intercepted and nabbed on the basis of information from reliable sources. Some weapons were also seized from one of them.

The four persons arrested were identified as Nur Hussain, 50, and Abul Hussain, 45,  both from Kachomari-Sonari, Daniel Yepthomi, 28, of Dimapur and Alobo Kipa, 23, of Locho in Zunheboto district of Nagaland.

Police recovered two 303 rifles with magazines, one silencer pipe, four rounds of live ammunition of 303 rifle and one 9 mm carbine with magazines that were hidden underground by Nur Hussain in a paddy field and near his cowshed.
