Kohima: The Lotha Students Union (LSU) of Nagaland has urged the Government to reform the Inner Line Permit system, which the students’ union observed is at present being “carelessly enforced” with numerous loopholes enabling illegal immigrants to take advantage of the deficient system and enter the State illegally.
In a representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, the LSU asked the Government to promptly initiate reforms in the existing ILP system with a vision to effectively regulate and monitor the influx of immigrants into Nagaland.
The LSU recommended enactment of fresh ILP guidelines for Nagaland State, similar to guidelines for the Enforcement of the Inner Line Regulation in Mizoram (2006), with special emphasis on stringent scrutiny of applicants from certain illegal Bangladeshi immigrants infested districts of Assam such as Karimganj, Hailakandi, Nagaon, Cachar and other places.
