Royal Bengal Tiger in Tripura zoo dies
Agartala: The only Royal Bengal Tiger in Tripuras zoo has died, officials said on Saturday. The tiger named Dipu died in the zoo on Friday because of ‘old age’, zoo director Naresh Jamatiya told reporters. The zoo is located at Sipahijala sanctuary, about 18 km from here. The Wild Life Warden of the sanctuary, Anjan Sen said the tiger was ailing for about last six months and was on oral rehydration for last fortnight. When contacted, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Ashok Kumar said the tiger was 15-years-old and the average life span of a Royal Bengal Tiger is 1518 years. The tiger was brought from Chandigarh zoo in 2006 when it was 3-year old, former director of the zoo, Pallab Chakraborty, told. (PTI)
Assam imposes night curfew along Nagaland border
Kohima: The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Sachin Jaiswal has informed that the Additional District Magistrate of Sivasagar in Assam has promulgated prohibitory order under section 144 Cr P C Night Curfew from Dusk to Dawn for 60 days the order come into force with immediate effect. According to official sources today informed that Jaiswasl said that the prohibitory order was imposed due to the unstable law and order situation in the 5 KM belt of Assam side bordering Nagaland. However the Magistrate on duty, the Security personnel of Army, CRPF, Police and Civil Officials deployed on duty have been exempted from the purview of this prohibitory order. Scheduled of curfew area are under Halwating, Galekey and Bihubor Police Stations along Assam- Nagaland border. Therefore all the public living in this border area and travelers who will be travelling these areas have been advised to take note of the order, sources said. (UNI)
‘Chakka Jam’ affects normal life in Guwahati for the second day
Guwahati: The indefinite nationwide ‘Chakka Jam’ disrupted normal life in Guwahati as public transport buses, auto and other passenger carrying vehicles stayed off the road. The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), one of the apex bodies of transporters, has called the nationwide ‘Chakka Jam’ from yesterday midnight to protest against the hike in diesel prices. In order to register their protest against bringing diesel under Goods and Services Taxes (GST) purview and the introduction of e-way bill by the Centre, the transport association called an indefinite strike. Battling the scorching sun, the city-goers and students were seen queuing up in the bus stoppages. Only a few buses of the Assam State Transport Association (ASTC) were seen plying on the roads. The supply of the essential commodities was also hit as the heavy vehicles, including auto-rickshaw operators across the country are on indefinite strike. (UNI)
INPT delegation leaves for Guwahati to hold regional parties’ meet
Agartala: A five-member delegation of Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) has left for Guwahati on Saturday, to attend the regional parties’ meeting of Northeast, to chalk out the strategies ahead of upcoming general elections. According to INPT president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawal, the local parties of all the northeastern states, including Asom Gana Parisad and Bodoland Peoples’ Front are on the move to constitute a regional forum to take on the mighty BJP and the Congress. To formulate a well designed plan, a meeting of regional parties has been called in Guwahati under the aegis of AGP on Sunday. Although National Registration Certificate (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill are the top agenda of the meeting, Lok Sabha election would also be discussed there. “We are going to join the meeting to discuss some important issues including NRC, the Citizenship Amendment Bills and empowerment of ten Autonomous District Councils (ADCs). We will put forward our view on these issues,”Hrangkhawal said. (UNI)
Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system introduced in Tripura
Agartala: An Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system was introduced in the Tripura Secretariat on Saturday to maintain employees are in their respective offices in time. Introducing the new system, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb asked the government employees and officers to attend their offices on time and complete their assigned task in a time bound manner. “The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-IPFT (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura) alliance government seriously wants to deliver the best services to the people. For this the state government wishes to complete the works within time by the employees,” he said. Deb also said that the government is also keen on paperless works to cut cost and time. “The Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance would also reduce the paper works and remove the late attendance of employees in their offices,” he added. A General Administration Department official said that gradually the Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance would be introduced in the other offices under the state government across the state. (IANS)
