SHILLONG: Despite People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chief PN Syiem projecting himself as the candidate for the Ranikor by-election, a final decision regarding his candidature will be taken at the meeting of the central election committee (CEC) of the party.
PDF leaders, including the president of the party, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang had on Friday said that the name of the candidate will be officially announced after the meeting of the CEC.
Asked on the move to field a common candidate, Marbaniang said, “It is his (Syiem’s) individual move and not from the party.”
No date has been fixed for the meeting.
Syiem had talks with UDP for a common candidate that was turned down as the UDP decided to field its nominee Pius Marwein.
Syiem has been touring the villages of Ranikor constituency to garner support for the common candidate.
