GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (metro) district administration on Tuesday directed closure of the Accoland Amusement Park in the Rani-Patgaon area on the outskirts of the city with immediate effect until recommendations of the inquiry report were complied with and aspects of public safety taken care of.

Kamrup metro deputy commissioner, Virendra Mittal had ordered an inquiry a few days back and officials investigating the quality of water of the pools and existing infrastructure at the park found several lapses “causing imminent danger to the health and life of people, especially the children and youth coming to the park.”

A detailed report along with individual reports by officials from various line departments was submitted to the DC.

Mittal stated in the order that if the operation of the park was allowed unhindered, it would cause serious threat to public health and life and could become an “uncharacteristic example of man-made disaster.”

The directive to the management of the amusement park was made in accordance with rules of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
