Syiem named PDF candidate for Ranikor

SHILLONG: The central election committee (CEC) of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has decided to field its chairman, PN Syiem as the candidate for the Ranikor by-election.
Syiem’s candidature was finalised at the CEC meeting on Monday.
Syiem had, earlier, made a failed bid to project himself as the common candidate for the by-election and had even sought UDP’s support to his candidature.
However, the UDP rejected the idea of a common candidate and decided to throw its weight behind its candidate Pius Marwein.
