MAWKYRWAT: Days after the death of a 10-year-old boy from electrocution at Laitlawsnai in South West Khasi Hills, Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo on Tuesday instructed the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) to fence all the transformers and the sub-station in the district.
In a letter to the assistant executive engineer, MePDCL, Mawkyrwat, the DC asked the officer to take steps to prevent any recurrence of such unfortunate incidents by conducting safety audit of all sub-stations, transformers and lines and alert linemen to report on any impending danger caused by sagging of lines, trees and others.
“Immediately take up fencing works in unfenced transformers and sub-station,” Laloo said in a letter, adding that the office should also install a warning signboard in the local language at all electrical facilities.
The Deputy Commissioner has also instructed the office to activate the Village Energy Committee constituted as per government order and instruct headmen or village representatives to immediately report if any danger is detected.
The boy was killed after touching a high tension wire of the 63 KCA sub-station at Laitlawsnai.
