By-poll to Ranikor Assembly Constituency on August 23

SHILLONG:  Four days after announcing  by poll for South Tura, the Election Commission of India on Friday announced simultaneous  by poll for  Ranikor constituency as well.

As per the notification issued by the Commission, the date of poll is  August  23  while the counting will take place on August 27.

The Gazette notification will be issued on  July 30 and the last date of nominations is  August 6 , adding the date of scrutiny of nomination is August 7.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is  August 9 and the election process shall be completed before August 29.

Following the announcement of the  South Tura by poll, different political parties in the state including Congress, UDP and PDF had asked the Commission to hold simultaneous by poll for both the constituency and UDP had even written to the Commission in this regard.

According to CEO, FR Kharkongor, the Ranikor constituency has -29670 voters including 15183  male and 14487 female voters and total number of voters with service voters is  29685.

The Largest Polling station in the constituency is Rangthong   with 817  while the smallest Polling station is Nongbahjynrin ..Mawthabah-  with 63 voters.

The by-poll to Ranikor  constituency has been necessitated as former MLA Congress MLA, MM Danggo resigned from the post of MLA as well as deserted the Congress after Government   upgraded Ranikor Administrative  unit into a Civil Sub division.

MM Danggo is scheduled to contest the by poll  from  National People’s Party (NPP) while UDP is putting up Pius Marwein.

PDF chief PN Syiem also is also likely to contest the election while Congress party has not  announced its   candidate for the constituency so far.
