Centre to build 264 km four-lane highway along Indo-Bhutan Border in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that State government was playing the role of a catalyst to Central government’s efforts in bring about infrastructural development along the border areas.

Speaking at the annual state convention, 2018 of Seemanta Chetana Mancha, Purbottar at Nikashi in Baksa district on Saturday , Sonowal said that the Centre had agreed in principle to construct a four lane highway of 264 km along Indo-Bhutan border encompassing four districts of the state.

 He also reiterated that after getting clearance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the construction work would start on a full throttle. The new connectivity would bring in revolutionary changes not only in connectivity but also in trade and commerce of the areas.

Sonowal hoped that the new steps would bring about socio-economic revolution in the four districts along with its peripheral areas. He also said that for the socio-economic development of border districts like Cachar, Karimganj, South Salmara-Mankachar, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri, State government had taken special schemes.

Hailing the role of Seemanta Chetana Mancha,Purbottar, Sonowal said that the organisation had been rendering yeoman’s service to imbibe the spirit of patriotism among the youths. He also said that to lend self-dignity among the people living in border areas, Seemanta Chetana Mancha, Purbottar had been playing a great role. To foster an environment conducive to expeditious development, State government has been working resolutely day in and day out.

Stating on the complete publication of the Draft NRC on July 30, Chief Minister Sonowal said the genuine Indian citizens whose names would be left out from the draft would get opportunity to enrol their names through disposal of claims and objections. State government will provide all possible help in this regard. He also made it loud and clear that if any unscrupulous element tries to foment communal hatred through social media, State government would tame such elements sternly.
