Harsh Vardhan moots orchidarium in IBDS

SHILLONG: Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Forests, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Harsh Vardhan  will write to the  Chief Minister of Meghalaya to work on the idea of developing  state-of-the –art orchidarium in the premises of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Meghalaya at Upper Shillong

Talking to media persons here after inaugurating the institute,  he said that  orchidarium  will strengthen the ability and experience of the farmers and young people will have the opportunity to be trained   and they would become  entrepreneurs besides improving the economy of the state.

He said that similar initiatives have worked very well in Manipur

An orchidarium  is an area in a park or botanical garden dedicated to orchids

Stating that the farmers need to be apprise of their potentialities, he said that the Union Government would develop a state of the art IBSD and an orchidarium.

“ We have told the director of the institute to take the best support of the State Government and I have asked even the local Minister  for the land expansion of the campus,” he said.
