Seminar held for Civil Service aspirants

Tura:   A seminar on “How to Prepare for Civil Services Examination” was held on Friday at District Auditorium, Tura which was organized by the Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, New Delhi in collaboration with District Administration, West Garo Hills, Tura under Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling Scheme and Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS).

While addressing the gathering of students, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh said that this seminar aims to boost the confidence and the level of preparedness for appearing in the civil services examination for all aspirants of the district. He reiterated that it will also help the students to appear for all types of job related examinations and urged them to appear for any kind of examinations in their future career.

Then, he informed that the students will have to write Aptitude Assessment Test consisting of General Studies and Essay for which the date of examination will be announced later on and those clearing the test will be designated as “Civil Services Fellows” and would be supported and assisted for IAS Coaching for the year 2018-19 in reputed coaching centres for nine months. In addition to this, attachment with Deputy Commissioner and Block Development Officers for three months to learn about various developmental programmes of the government with a special focus on getting insights into various strategies or models adopted or implemented over a period of time, he added.

V Rabindra Babu, Director, Nagarjuna IAS Academy, Hyderabad explained in detail about the Civil Services Examination Pattern comprising of Preliminary, Mains Examination and Personal Interview. He also briefed them about the method of preparation for General Studies, choosing of optional for Main Examination, selection of books and authors, science and technology magazines, current affairs, newspapers, magazines and journals amongst others.

Emphasizing on the types and wide range of questions framed and the way to answer these questions, he advised them to follow the three I Approach that is picking up the right information, interpreting and integrity. While advising them to improve their writing skills, amount of time dedicated for studies, inculcate appropriate learning skills and articulation, he mentioned that the time required for preparation for civil services examination is 7-8 hours a day for about 10-12 months.

Further, while motivating the students to put extra effort and achieve the mission, he informed that Davis Nestell Marak, the present Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills was one of the successful candidates from the said institute.
