SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said there will be reverse funding for improvement of education in Meghalaya.
Inaugurating the science stream at Loyola College in Williamnagar on Saturday, Sangma said, “Education has been a priority for us and we have budgeted close to Rs 2,000 crore. All these years, almost 90 percent funds were spent on administrative purposes while only 10 per cent on development of infrastructure. We are trying to ensure that maximum thrust is put in place for the welfare of students and development of better facilities in the institutes.”
According to Sangma, education is very important for him and his government and for this they will have to do a lot of work.
“We are according top priority to ensure better educational facilities in the state and have embarked on a mission to finalise the Education Policy,” he said.
The chief minister enlightened the gathering on the important agenda of his late father Purno Agitok Sangma, who always dreamt of a better future for the students of Meghalaya.
He urged the students of Loyola College to develop a competitive spirit and strive for excellence.
“The science programme at Loyola is a significant step towards science education in Garo Hills with a plan for research at higher secondary, undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels,” said Fr Sunny Augustine, principal of Loyola College.
