SHILLONG: Congress legislator PT Sawkmie wondered as to why the Atomic Mineral Division (AMD) did not inform the state government about the visit of its scientists to Mawthabah that resulted in the assault incidents.
Sawkmie, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the recent incident at Mawthabah “was created by the staff and officers of AMD by exploring uranium at Mawthabah without the knowledge and the consent of the state government and the district administration”.
According to Sawkmie, this shows that AMD has no respect for the state government. “If we recall, the then government had terminated and withdrawn the agreement with UCIL because of the health hazards and protests from the people of the state,” Sawkmie said. According to the Congress legislator, action should have been taken against the AMD officials because of the violation of the government stand.
