TURA: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has acknowledged that there are many challenges of infrastructure development in the town of Tura and exuded confidence of overcoming them.

Speaking to media persons shortly after filing his nomination, Conrad Sangma acknowledged that Tura was a growing town and there was urgent need for boosting infrastructure and ensuring basic amenities reach the people.

“Tura is the de-facto headquarters of entire Garo Hills and looking at the overall infrastructure available definitely a lot needs to be done. Infrastructure development will be a key area but it will not be easy to change everything overnight. Efforts will have to be made,” said the chief minister and NPP candidate adding that ensuring basic amenities reach the people will be his priority.

Expressing gratitude to his younger sister Agatha K Sangma he said that she sacrificed her seat to pave the way for him to contest.

“Though it will be a tough contest, I am excited about this election. I stay in Tura and so this is like coming back home,” said the chief minister.

He also paid rich tributes to his late father who he said had a vision for the town of Tura which was cut short by his untimely demise.

“My late father had a lot of dreams for Tura and I will try my level best to work on fulfilling those dreams. There will be many challenges but we will work to overcome them,” said Conrad Sangma.

“We know where the expectations come from and I am aware of the challenges that may come our way. We will try and balance things out and take on critical areas that require to be urgently worked upon,” added the chief minister.
