Public hearing on Wapung block office relocation
Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, FM Dopth, has informed that a public hearing on shifting of the existing Community & Rural Development Block headquarter from Wapung to Lumshnong will be held on August 6 at 10 am at Wapung Secondary School to solicit the views of various stakeholders. The deputy commissioner also informed that public notice has been given to all petitioners and stake holders who have objected to the proposed shifting. The DC has invited all interested persons to attend the hearing.
SP issues notice for

public, tourists
Shillong: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, has requested all citizens in Shillong to keep order on public roads, streets and all tourist spots in the district and desist from causing obstruction, injury, annoyance to passersby or pollution and littering. Those not obeying the orders will be arrested Under Section 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act 2010 and fined Rs 5000 if convicted in a court of law. Tourists have been advised to carry garbage bags in their vehicles where small items like wrappers, chips packet and water bottles can be collected and dumped in appropriate dustbins.

BSF conducts joint cleaning drive at tourist spots
SHILLONG: In an effort to keep the environment clean, Border Security Forces joined hands with different stakeholders to hold a cleaning drive in the border areas. L. Mohanti, Inspector General, Meghalaya Frontier BSF, officers, sub-ordinate officers and troops of BSF along with the locals and media representatives conducted a joint Swachh Abhiyan at ICP Dawki, Boating point, Borhills and the Living Root Bridge at Riwai on Tuesday. A ceremony was conducted at Living Root Bridge Riwai where local residents were felicitated in recognition of their efforts in keeping the area clean. Dustbins were also placed at different locations by the troops. Screening of BSF documentaries was also held at Riwai. Trained BSF canines showcasing their skills and drills also entertained the locals and visitors. BSF brass band also added colours with melodious tunes at the programme. UK Nayal, DIG/PRO, the nominated nodal officer for the campaign, said more of such events will be conducted in the future.

Lumparing gets PWD link road
SHILLONG: A 200-meter motorable PWD link road was inaugurated at Riat Laban-Kynjat Phutbol on Monday. The road connecting Kynjat Phutbol in Lumparing from the existing PWD road was constructed at a cost of Rs 82,88,200 under the Special Planning Assistance scheme. Speaking at the inauguration, local MLA Sanbor Shullai said many have suffered in times of emergency and financially as there was no proper road connectivity earlier. He informed that there are other projects which are being implemented in the constituency and has urged the contractors to complete those within the set deadline.

Missing person
SHILLONG: Sajid Majumdar (13 /M), son of (L) Imar Ali Mazumdar and Hazira Begum was reported missing from Happy Valley, Shillong since July 8 around 2 pm. A case was registered at Madanrting police station in this connection. He is approximately 5.4 inches tall and is of fair complexion. He has a long face shape with black, short hair. He was last seen wearing black jeans, blue t-shirt and black shoes.
