TURA: A militant belonging to the Assam based National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has reportedly been killed in a gun battle that  took place between the militant group and police at a village under Songsak police station in East Garo Hills.

Police had launched an early morning operation on Friday after receiving inputs of the presence of a mixed group comprising of NDFB militants and Garo miscreants numbering around 10, at Tarasin village under Songsak PS. The police team was approaching the village when the group armed with Assault rifles and small arms fired upon them leading to a brief gun battle in which one militant was killed on the spot while the others managed to flee. The incident had taken place at around 6 am.

Soon after the incident police were able to identify the slain militant as one, Koma Boro of the NDFB from whose body an AK rifle and a magazine was also recovered.

According to police, many others who managed to escape are likely to have sustained injuries going by the many blood trails at the site of the incident.

“We believe that at least 3 or 4 other militants may have been injured as there are many blood trails leading from the encounter site,” East Garo Hills SP, R T G Momin said.

Meanwhile, the dead body of the militant has been sent for post mortem and a case is also being registered in connection with the incident.
