Kabul, Aug 7 (IANS) Fifty people, including security personnel and civilians, were killed in fighting in Afghanistan’s Logar province, authorities said on Tuesday.

The clash started late Monday night after Taliban militants stormed Azra district and surrounding areas, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The militants were closing in on the district centre and fierce gun battles were underway in different parts of Azra, sharing a border with Nangarhar province,” an informed official said.

Several militants were also killed or wounded in the fighting. But their numbers were not disclosed.
