TURA: Former ANVC-B chairman Bernard Rimpu Marak has levelled accusations against contesting candidate and former South Tura legislator John Leslee K Sangma alleging that the latter had misappropriated MLA schemes during his tenure.
The former rebel who obtained RTI documents has alleged that workers of the former MLA profited from projects under the Special Urban Works Programme (SUWP) as all works were routed through them.
) “The RTI revealed few names which were repeatedly sanctioned huge amounts for supply of goods as well as work. This was done without involving the local development committees and those who benefitted from it did not even complete the projects and yet it was shown in documents as complete,” alleged Bernard.
“In my own locality the cement concrete roads are not completed. The community hall at Ranggira is hardly 15 percent done but it is marked as completed in paper. The community hall meant for Kongbe Ading locality was never constructed but still shown as completed,” he claims while displaying documents allegedly obtained through RTI.
Calling for an investigation into the SUWP projects in South Tura, the former rebel leader goes on to add that during the tenure of the former legislator, a contingency fund of Rs 10 lakh meant for victims of natural calamities and another similar amount for sporting activities in localities went unutilised.
