Model code of conduct in SWKHD
Mawkyrwat: The Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, has informed that with the announcement of the Election Commission of India for conducting of the by-election to Ranikor Constituency, the model code of conduct has been enforced in the entire district with immediate effect. It will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Government concerned and also to the Union government for the district of the state concerned, the Deputy Commissioner added.
Measles-Rubella vaccination camp
Mawkyrwat: With a view to ensure maximum coverage of immunisation in the district, the South West Khasi Hills District Task Force Committee held a meeting last week in the office of the Deputy Commissioner at Laitlawsang, Mawkyrwat to prepare and sort a plan for action for measles-rubella vaccination campaign (MRVC) which will be launch next month. South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo had called for support and cooperation from the community, religious leaders, NGOs and headmen in order to make the campaign successful and to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated. The Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign will be launch by September 24, and is targeted to cover children in the age group between 9 months to below 15 years through immunisation. As most of the children in this age group are students,vaccination will be carried out in schools.
Students create crafts with waste materials
SHILLONG: Hill View Secondary School recently presented a diverse Art & Craft exhibition highlighting the skills of the students from classes pre-nursery to class X. In a statement issued here, the principal of the school said that each class worked on different themes. The exhibition showcases creativity, innovation from waste materials like newspaper, pine cone, plastic bottles, pencil shaving and others which was rhapsody of colors. Anita Gaikwad, first lady of Assam Regimental Centre was the chief guest at the programme, principal of the school, Arpita Majumdar, Maj Geeta Mahadik, education officer and other dignitaries from Assam Regimental centre were present to encourage the students.
