Allies advise MDA government to strengthen infiltration check gates

SHILLONG: The coalition partners of Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government which met here on Thursday, has advised the State Government to immediately strengthen the existing infiltration check gates in the state.

The meeting which was attended by all the partners of the MDA Government discussed at the length the prevailing situation in the state following the fallout of publication of final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the MDA partners had suggested the Government to setup additional infiltration check gates in different parts of the state if there was any requirement.

In addition, the Government has also been asked to re-visit the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act and strengthen it

‘”We want that both the Act and the Rules should be strengthened,” Tynsong said.

On the other hand, Urban Affairs Minister and PDF MLA, Hamlet Dohling said that the Government has already directed the DCs, SPs and O/Cs to be vigilant besides they have also asked the NGOs, Rangbah Shnongs and citizens to inform the authorities immediately if they saw anything suspicious.
