Meeting held to discuss education scenario in SWGH

TURA: In an attempt to streamline the functioning of SSA schools and improve the education scenario in the district, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, SSA, South West Garo Hills, Ramkumar S. held a meeting with the Education officials, district and block functionaries of SSA, principals and heads of schools at Ampati on Wednesday.

Highlighting the purpose of the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the importance of education and urged upon all functionaries concerned to remain consistent in one’s efforts towards the cause of education. While admitting that there are financial and other constraints hindering the proper functioning in the education system, he however appealed to the officers and staff of Education department and district unit of SSA to shoulder the responsibility of improving the education scenario through coordinated approach.

Drawing up a few suggestions to address the gaps in education sector at the grass root level, the Deputy Commissioner said it was necessary to have systematic inspection of schools and evaluation of students. ”In order to improve the percentage of pass in SSLC exams, which is one of the lowest in the state, we will first need to address the problems and loopholes plaguing the Elementary Schools”, he said and urged upon the Education officials, the DMC, the BMCs, Block Resource Persons (BRPs), CRC coordinators, Principals and heads of schools to jointly shoulder the responsibility towards this end.

He instructed the BRPs to go for regular inspection of the schools, check the classroom ambience and record their remarks in detail. The CRCs and CRPs along with the community mobilizers were asked to ensure that the meetings are conducted regularly and the minutes recorded in detail. Likewise, he also instructed that the meeting with the School Managing Committees (SMCs) be conducted regularly.

The Deputy Commissioner has also come up with school inspection format for the BMCs and BRPs for use during the inspection of schools. Meanwhile, he also informed that systematic inspection by the BRPs and random inspection of schools by the Deputy Commissioner, DMC, BDOs, DSEO and SDSEO would be done.

The Deputy Commissioner also presented a power point presentation with the title “Knowledge is Wisdom”, while the DMC, SSA, D.A.Sangma gave a power point presentation on SSA and its various interventions.  SDSEO, Ampati, R.Z. Das also shared a few inputs for improvement of education sector in the district.
