TURA: Thousands of teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Wednesday took out a rally against the state government in Williamnagar for delaying the payment of their salaries and arrears besides ignoring other demands.
Altogether four months of pending salary including 8 months arrear from the 2016-17 are yet to be released to the teachers although several demands and memorandums were served to both the previous government under Mukul Sangma and the ruling MDA Government. The teachers are also demanding that salary is given to 4th teachers on the basis of ‘equal pay, equal work’, immediate conduct of 2nd year D.El.Ed course, release of salary in individual accounts and the regularisation of their services. The rally on Wednesday began after a brief meeting at the Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School, from where they marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. A memorandum of their demands addressed to Education Minister Lakmen Rymbui was also handed over to the Additional Deputy Commissioner in his chamber.
Meanwhile, local organisations like GSU and the FAF also participated in the rally.
