JOWAI: A BSF jawan was arrested on Thursday allegedly for molesting a 16-year-old girl at Chiehruphi village in East Jaintia Hills.
District police chief S Nongtnger said the accused man has been identified as Dipankar Ghosh.
The incident took place around 9.30-10pm near the shop owned by the victim’s sister. The sister runs the shop near the entrance of Meghalaya Cement Limited (TopCem).
“Around 10.30 pm, the girl’s elder sister, a resident of Lama village, appeared at Lumshnong police station and verbally reported that a BSF jawan had molested her minor sister,” the police said.
According to the sister, the BSF personnel stationed at TopCem came to her shop at Chiehruphi and molested her minor sister when she was going to the toilet.
On hearing her sister scream, she came for help and saw a uniformed man running towards the factory and entering the premises.
East Jaintia Hills police later identified the jawan and arrested him.
Ghosh has been booked under Section 9(b)(iii)/10 of the POCSO Act.
