SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA, Adelbert Nongrum raised  concern over the growing menace of drug abuse in the state which he termed as hidden epidemic posing a threat to social stability.

He was speaking at the one-day workshop on “Psychological and illegal impact and society” organised by New Hope Center on Friday. It is sponsored by the state government under the Voluntary Action Fund 2016-17 through the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills.

Stating that setting up of rehabilitation centers are not enough, he said proper counseling and guidance was necessary for the victims of drug abuse as it would make them productive members in the society.
