Open consumption of alcohol banned in WGH

TURA: Following reports of alcohol consumption taking place openly in many places of importance in and around Tura Town, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has issued an order prohibiting the same in public places, parking lots, construction sites, thoroughfares etc.

The order which was issued under Section 144 CRPC will come into immediate effect in the entire West Garo Hills District.

It was also warned that violation of the order would be construed as Public nuisance under section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act and a penalty of Rs 5,000 per person would be enforced by the police administration, and in case of repeated offences, additional fines, which may extend to Rs 15,000 per person.
