SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday lauded the “real democracy” in Meghalaya where MDA alliance partners are pitching against each other in the Ranikor by-poll but throwing their weight behind NPP candidate Conrad Sangma in South Tura.
“This is the real democracy in Meghalaya which is lovely,” Tynsong said after a meeting of the MDA partners on Thursday.
Tynsong said the coalition partners are supporting Sangma because “he is the CM and all of them want the MDA government to last its full tenure of five years and may be more”.
The MDA partners discussed at length the upcoming South Tura by-election but most of the leaders were tightlipped about the minutes of the meeting.
Later, Urban Affairs Minister and PDF MLA Hamlet Dohling said the party would support Sangma in South Tura but rally behind its candidate PN Syiem in Ranikor.
