In our last edition, we have published career options related to cooperatives. In this edition, we are publishing more information about the same.
At a time when income inequality is rising around the world, it is good to be reminded that solutions to inequality do exist. The co-operative model is foremost among these solutions since it contains aspects of sustainable development at its core and is based on ethical values and principles.
Co-operatives’ open membership model affords access to wealth creation and poverty elimination. This results from the co-operative principle of members’ economic participation: ‘Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of their co-operative.’
The process of managing and developing co-operative enterprises is considerably different from the management of corporate enterprises or family-owned businesses. Students have to learn a number of subjects like Environment for Cooperatives and Rural Development, Cooperative Credit and Banking, Cooperative Law, Management and Administration, Non-Credit Cooperatives, Cooperative Accounts and Audit, MIS & Computer Application – I, Cost Accounting and Financial Management, Marketing Management, Allied Laws,
Organizational Behaviour and Communication, Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Statistics, Research Methodology and Project Management, among others.
Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management (ARGUCOM) is the first cooperative management university in the country established in 2010. The university in Sivasagar is residential. It gives the opportunity to enhance skills and managerial capacity, research for searching innovative spheres and to make efforts for all round development of cooperative movement and rural economy.

Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune is a premier management institute for the cooperative sector. The Institute of Cooperative Management, Guwahati, is one of the nineteen Institutes of Cooperative Management in the country and functions under the overall administrative control of National Council for Cooperative Training, New Delhi, being funded by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

Korea-India Friendship Essay Competition 2018: All India 6th Korea-India Friendship Essay Competition 2018 invites applications from students of class 6 to 9 to write an essay on the topic ‘Why South Korea is my Favorite Country?’ in 150 to 300 words and from students of class 10 to 12 to write on ‘Why I want to become an Indian Ambassador to South Korea?’ in 300 to 500 words.
The senior students can win a free trip to Korea and the junior students can win up to Rs 20000.
This essay writing competition is organized by the Korean Cultural Centre India, Embassy of Republic of Korea. This competition is for Indian students residing in India and students of Classes VI-XII are eligible to enter the contest. Interested students may send their entries before August 17.
MAITS: Mahindra All India Talent Scholarship (MAITS) 2018 invites applications from class 10/12 passed students who have secured admission in a government or other recognised Polytechnic Institute for Diploma Courses in India. This scholarship aims to empower students belonging to the underprivileged section of the society. KC Mahindra Education Trust is offering this scholarship to the students belonging to lower income group families. Each selected student will receive the scholarship of Rs 10,000 per annum for a maximum of three years. Aspirants may apply before August 16.
