Delay in appointment of new DGP

SHILLONG: The state government is yet to get the annual confidential reports of senior IAS officers from Assam before sending them to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for appointment of new DGP.
Earlier on July 30, the Supreme Court had asked the UPSC to finalise the recommended names sent by the state government for the appointment of a permanent DGP within four weeks.
After the state government sent the list of probables, the UPSC had further made some queries related to the annual confidential reports of the candidates. (Pending the appointment of a full-fledged DGP, the state government had on July 31 temporarily appointed Raghvendra Awasthi as the new head of the police force.
Earlier on July 3, the Supreme Court had banned the appointment of acting DGP and wanted the state government to send the names of the aspirants to UPSC which will in turn send three names back to the state government for the appointment of a new DGP.
