Security beefed up across Shillong for I-Day

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills police have beefed up the security across Shillong city ahead of the Independence Day celebration even as preparations for the celebration is going on smoothly

Talking   to media persons here at Polo ground where official programme will be held, District SP, Davis Marak said that the police have made elaborative security arrangements to thwart any attempt to disrupt the celebrations

Stating that the police have increased patrolling across the city, he added that the security forces have been directed to remain vigilant and intensify checking.

“We are ready to tackle any kind of situation,” East Khasi Hills police chief said.

According to Marak, they have been receiving threats from various banned organisation from time to time adding that there are organisations who wanted to boycott this kind of celebration.

In view of the reports that around 12 hardcore militants have cross to India to disrupt peace and tranquility in the region, Marak informed that special check-points have been set up at various places within the city.

The SP of East Khasi Hills also informed that they had also made adequate security arrangements for the other programmes which will be there as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, it is seen that the security apparatus has been intensified in the city with additional deployment of police personnel besides checking of vehicles is going on in different parts of the city including its outskirt areas.

The main venue of the Independence Day function is Polo Ground where Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is scheduled to unfurl the national flag.
