MAWKYRWAT: Kitborlang Nongrem, the NPP president in South West Khasi Hills, will be the party’s candidate for next year’s district council election.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced the name during his by-poll campaign at Rangthong village in Ranikor on Friday. NPP state president WR Kharlukhi, C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and NPP candidate for Ranikor by-poll MM Danggo were present.
“It is only for Ranikor that we have already declared the ticket for the council election,” Tynsong said while appealing to the people of Rangthong area to support Danggo in the by-election.
Nongrem is a resident of the village.
“We need both the leaders to be MLA and MDC so that they can work together for the development of the constituency and especially the new civil sub-division,” Tynsong said.
Meanwhile, Kharlukhi said the visits by former chief minister Mukul Sangma to Ranikor constituency showed that he was “afraid” of losing his position as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader if he loses both South Tura and Ranikor seats.
“Mukul Sangma came here with one agenda, to defeat Danggo to firm his position which is now shaky,” Kharlukhi said, adding that Mukul has waved white flag and surrendered the South Tura seat to the NPP and now his focus is on Ranikor.
