SHILLONG: The BJP will contest both the district council and the Lok Sabha elections, slated for next year, and is working on the possible names for the twin contests.
BJP leader and Cabinet minister AL Hek told reporters recently that though the party’s victory would depend on candidates but it should contest all elections.
“People in Meghalaya elect their representatives on personal ground and not because of the party. If we have the right candidates, we will do very well in both the elections,” he added.
Asked about the party’s groundwork for the 2019 polls, Hek said BJP is in the process to identify candidates and then strengthen their vote base.
“We can strengthen the existing candidates or we can even look for better candidates,” he added.
BJP state unit president Shibun Lyngdoh in the last 2014 Lok Sabha elections had secured fourth position with 95,979 votes.
