SHILLONG: Congress will field Fantin Joseph Lakadong as its candidate for the 2019 Member District Council (MDC) polls from Laitumkhrah constituency

Local MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that the decision to field Fantin Joseph Lakadong as MDC candidate was taken unanimously at the block Congress level, even as she added that the block Congress recommended his name since a vacancy arose in the party after Neil Antonio War had left it.

Asserting that the Congress has to retain the MDC seat from the constituency, Lyngdoh added that Lakadong was a member of the District Congress Committee.

Admitting that it would be tough for her to function as both MLA and MDC, she expressed confidence that when people of the constituency could have faith on her, they would definitely have confidence on someone from her family.

It may be mentioned that Fantin Joseph Lakadong is the spouse of local MLA Lyngdoh.

“He (Fantin Joseph Lakadong) will have to work hard and we are already working hard and it seems he is acceptable to the people of the constituency,” Lyngdoh added.

Fantin Joseph Lakadong is a product of St Edmund’s College and is a businessman by profession.

However, the recommendation of Fantin Joseph Lakadong as the party candidate will have to be approved by the Congress high command in the state before he contest the MDC elections scheduled to be held next year.
