SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has once again been caught on a wrong foot over frequently changing the course content of Economics subject for Class XI.

It was on May 3, when MBoSE issued a notification (No. 29) where it was stated that   the Board had adopted CBSE syllabus and NCERT/ CBSE Textbooks for Class XI for 2018-19 academic session   and Class XII for 2019-20 academic session

In the notification, the MBoSE also recommended the list of textbooks like Eco statistics Class XI, NCERT and Indian Economic Development, NCERT.

Three months after the notification, the MBoSE issued another notification (No.32) on August 13 wherein MBoSE recommended NCERT textbooks like part A:  introductory Micro-economics and part B Statistics for Economics for class XI of   session 2018-19.

A teacher dealing with the subject said that the two notifications issued by the Board has led to lot of confusion as they had already completed many chapters of the Indian Economic Development and now it has become a waste of time and energy for the students.

Some teachers on the request of anonymity also said that the new book introductory Microeconomics is hardly available in the market and students are facing a lot of problem to get the new text books

When contacted, Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) president, ED Nongsiang said that the matter was discussed among the economic teachers even as he added that the move of the MBoSE has created a lot of confusion for teachers.

“The Board must should study in details before issuing notifications and it has brought confusion and when inquired, Board was not clear on the matter,” Nongsiang said while lamenting that the students now have very less time to prepare for their examinations.

Stating that the Board should be clear with the syllabus, Nongsiang also added that they would urge the Board to ensure that such confusions does not place again.

Meanwhile, he said that the Board had not given any model question paper and there is no pattern of setting the question. He added that they might meet the Board authorities to discuss the matter.
