Over Rs 12 lakh seized in poll-bound Ranikor

SHILLONG: Over Rs 12 lakh has been seized in poll-bound Ranikor.
According to an official source, the zonal magistrate and police at Rajaju under Ranikor civil sub-division seized Rs 12,86,000 belonging to four separate businessmen on Friday.
One of the persons was carrying Rs 6 lakh.
The source added that there was no indication of any party affiliation of the persons who were carrying the cash.
However, there was no withdrawal slips for the cash that was seized.
The seized cash was forwarded to the court and an appellate committee will examine the matter, the source added.
The South West Khasi Hills district authorities are keeping vigil to thwart any unfair practices in the run-up to the polls.
Static surveillance teams and flying squads are also on the job.
There were some complaints of setting up flags by political parties and action was taken by district election officials.
