SHILLONG: The Shillong-Dawki road project is yet to start two years after it got necessary clearances.
The project will be implemented by National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The NHIDCL website says that the final detailed project report was submitted last year and the JICA loan agreement was signed earlier this year.
The website says there are some alignment issues raised by the Forest Department and it has been taken up with the government. The department has in principle approved alignment from 1.9km to 2.5km and the remaining length is being resurveyed.
A report on the social impact assessment and land acquisition in East Khasi Hills has been submitted to the DC and that for the remaining stretch in Jaintia Hills is in progress.
The no objection certificate from BSF for the BOP area land was received in July.
The Shillong-Dawki road is probably one of the best with deep gorges and enchanting views.
A visit to the site showed that the condition of the road though largely satisfactory there remain stretches which have potholes and are also narrow with sharp curves.
The 95-km project is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 1,377.5 crore.
