SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government, like other states in the North East, will donate Rs 1 core for the flood-affected people in Kerala.
An official source said on Tuesday that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wanted to donate Rs 1 crore to help the affected people in the southern state.
Earlier on Sunday, the Assam government announced financial aid of Rs 3 crore to Kerala while contribution of Manipur was Rs 2 crore.
Nagaland chief minister also announced a financial package of Rs 1 crore.
The official added that the state government is taking the initiative since there was not much public initiative in this regard.
The Meghalaya IAS officers are also taking separate initiatives.
The additional chief secretary in charge revenue and disaster department, P W Ingty, contacted his counterpart in Kerala to enquire about the well-being of Meghalaya citizens living there.
“Till date, we have not come across anyone from Meghalaya being stranded in Kerala,” Ingty said.
The state government has sought a report on Meghalaya students and workers in the flood-ravaged state.
