MAWKYRWAT: The South West Khasi Hills district election officer on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to the Congress and the NPP for violating the model code of conduct in Ranikor.
Election officer Isawanda Laloo told The Shillong Times that the Congress was given the notice for holding a public meeting at Photkroh on August 18 without the DEO or the returning officer’s permission.
NPP was issued the notice for putting up flags at private residences without submitting written consent of the owners as mandated in the model code, Laloo said.
The parties have to reply within 24 hours.
Laloo said the district flying squads “are keeping a strict vigil” as campaigning ended at 5pm on Tuesday.
“The static surveillance teams are keeping a close watch on illegal flow of cash and liquor,” she said and informed that the monitoring team in Ranikor seized about 150 litres of country liquor from “habitual offenders”.
The district administration has also stopped issuing retail permits to wine shops from August 16. The bonded warehouse in the district is also under vigil.
Laloo said 34 polling parties left bound for far-flung booths on Tuesday.
