SHILLONG: A concerned citizen, Pawan Sharma wrote to the state Chief Secretary Y Tsering with a request to carry out an NRC type of exercise in Meghalaya.
In the letter to the CS, Sharma stated that the state is plagued from the ills of influx and illegal immigrants which tax the public exchequer at the cost of genuine citizens of the state and country.
Appreciating suggestion made by KHADC CEM, HS Shylla to vet the citizens with effect from 1951, he hoped that the same should be implemented in letter and spirit which would in turn ensure that the genuine citizens are not discriminated in the matter of employment, land holding and others.
“This exercise is also necessary for the enforcement of the Fundamental Rights of the citizens as provided under Chapter III of the Constitution of India,” Sharma added.
