Danggo son in trouble over house search
SHILLONG: The son of NPP’s Ranikor candidate MM Danggo is in trouble as a video footage showed him entering the houses of voters at Phudkroh in the constituency and conducting search.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor told reporters on Thursday that a notice was issued though there was no written complaint.
“The video was circulated on Wednesday and it was alleged that the person was searching houses,” he said.
The CEO said investigation into the matter has already begun.
Danggo’s son is an employee in the Excise Department in East Khasi Hills.
When contacted, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo said a notice was issued to the candidate/party on the basis of the WhatsApp video footage, “which showed a person identified as the NPP candidate’s son entering the houses of unknown persons and causing a search, personally, without warrant”.
“Whereas it appears that this unauthorised entry with a probable intention of intimidation is an electoral offence amounting to violation of the model code of conduct,” she said.
He was asked to show cause as to why action should not be taken against the concerned party under relevant sections of law.
The SP has already asked the DSP to conduct an inquiry into the matter and is awaiting a written complaint before registering case.
Shylla predicts NPP win in by-polls

Airing his views on the two by-elections held on Thursday, the NPP MDC and district council chief said, “If NPP wins, it will be the single largest party. If we win in South Tura, the tally will go up to 20 and if people elect NPP, the number will rise to 21.”
He was also confident of NPP candidate Conrad Sangma’s win in South Tura and observed that the two by-elections “will bring about changes in the state”.
